Who are the S.S. Minnows?
This program teaches and performs a combination of rythmic swim skills and gymnastics that are set to music. Synchronized swimmers will gain overall body strength, agility,timing, music interperation, and swimming skills. The S.S. Minnows are the only known YMCA competing synchronized swimming program in Iowa and one of only two age group programs. Cyndi Barber, a 25-year plus veteran of synchronized swimming and Kelly Calderon, instruct all participants in the serene beauty and skill that this graceful sport develops.

Synchronized swimming beginst Friday, September 7th and continues into March with a grand finale swim performance. Performance dates will be available at a later date. Team practices are held in the Community Y Natatorium on Fridays from 4:00-7:00pm. Competitions will be determined and planned at a later time.
Intermediate/Advanced (4:00-5:15pm)
Beginner/Advanced Beginner (5:15-6:15pm)
Adult Synchronized Swimming (6:15-7:00pm)
Requirements
Swimming requirements include all participants passing Minnow level of YMCA swim lessons, Level 4 of Red Cross or can skillfully demonstrate front crawl, back crawl, and breaststroke. This program is available to all 3rd graders and up who meet the swim requirements. Synchronized swim coaches and the Aquatic Director will determine swimmers skill level and participation. Other program fees include basic water gear including swim cap, swim suit, clear goggles, and costume for performance
